Lucas Toornvliet
For as long as I can remember, I have been making illustrations. I never really had a fixed plan when creating them; I simply started drawing based on a feeling, a kind of instinct. This “creator’s instinct” is something I still rely on when making art. I rarely begin with a complete plan—improvisation is key. The moments when I am surprised by the creative process are when I produce my strongest work.

In 2023, I graduated in Animation Design from ArtEZ University of the Arts in Zwolle. During my studies, I rediscovered my love for filmmaking. When starting a film, the first question I ask myself is: What emotion do I want my audience to feel? The answer forms the solid core of the film; everything else remains fluid. I adapt the style and technique to whatever best serves the film as a whole.
